Key 2 Learning’s SuperCarer Aged Care Training Program was created based on in-depth consultation with industry experts, and recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care. The program includes the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support and essential skills such as dementia care, palliative care, assistance to clients with medication, leisure, health, and leadership skills. Students undergo work placement at leading aged care organisations, learning best practices from some of the most well-experienced professionals in the field as part of their on-the-job training, which are essential in developing sound communication skills, soft skills, resident care management skills, and other practical skills. Students will then be assessed for employment suitability as part of their work placement.
The entire program is intended for new staff entering the industry but is also essential for the experienced ones especially in the areas of dementia and palliative care as a way of upskilling. Key 2 Learning also provides Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) for staff wishing to have their work skills assessed and accredited.
Aged care providers who wish to employ students undertaking the program are guaranteed that they are professionally trained, carrying with them the best practices in the process and procedures accompanying the profession. Key 2 Learning can also assist aged care providers in training its workforce further to improve work motivation and gain professional development.
Approved by NSW Smart and Skilled and ACT Skills Canberra, Key 2 Learning can also assist aged care providers in seeking government assistance to subsidise the training of their staff. Key 2 Learning can also assist with traineeships under the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencement (BAC) program.
The delivery of the program is as follows:
The delivery of the SuperCarer Aged Care Training Program has been designed to ensure students are suitable for the role and can apply for employment opportunities prior to the completion of the program.
1
Students will undertake an induction process to ensure suitability for the role. The process will include a presentation by the Aged Care Workplacement Facilitator on the role and responsibilities of an aged care worker. Students will also visit an aged care facility and meet with staff and residents. Moreover, they will also undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test and a general course induction.
2
The training will be conducted over the duration of the program and will incorporate the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support and essential Skill Sets. The training will be provided by Key 2 Learning experienced trainers and assessors.
3
The work placement will be provided by Work Placement Facilitators, a leading aged care provider like RFBI, participating in the program for the work placement and on-the-job training of students. The work placement will incorporate the standard requirements of the Certificate and Skill Sets qualifications, in addition to other on-the-job training covering communication and soft skill training, interaction with residents, coaching, and other practical skills. Students will be taught best-practices in the sector and will be evaluated at the completion of the work placement to ensure that they are suitable for employment. Students will undertake work placement during the second and the sixth month of their program.
4
Prospective aged care providers interested in employing students participating in the program can reach out to Key 2 Learning and the Work Placement Facilitator to discuss contextualising the SuperCarer program within their specific processes and procedures.
